INVEST IN YOU
This episode is about investment in your own self. When you invest in YOU, it will always, always pay off.
Even if you invest in yourself in something that doesn’t take you exactly where you want, at least you’ve learned something and you’ve discovered something about yourself.
I like what Tony Robbins said: Failure is when you don’t do anything, when you don’t take any action. Failure is when you let fear stand in your way and stops you from going where you want to go. This is failure.
But if you go and you try something and it doesn’t get the exact results you want or it’s a very different result, this is not failure. This is information. This is knowledge. This is where you got closer to the next stage.
Most people do not achieve what they want on their first try. Take a look at the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken as an example. It took about 1,000 interviews before someone invested in him and believed in him. My point here is that these first steps we take lead us closer to the dream.
A New Life For Myself
In my life, this is what I’ve done. I left home at the age of 18 with a dream of having a stable life, home, family, business, and the opportunity to lead others spiritually and to a better life.
I had that desire because I came from a broken home and it was miserable to the point that I wanted to die. Fortunately, there were people in my life whom I call angels and they helped me survive and find hope.
It was a long process of trying to find my own space but I was eventually able to rent my own room. And from there, I met someone, married her and then we moved here in the U.K.
After settling in a whole new country, I found a way to learn and study. I underwent training to be a translator and then I used my skills to apply for a master’s degree. And after extensive testing, I passed in three universities, picked the one that suited me the most and then got a high-paying job in Liverpool.
But despite that, I felt that something was missing. So I went more, I invested even more. I went and got myself a law degree. I failed the first year because I was juggling becoming a father, a full-time job and my thesis. I went at it again and fortunately I passed the second time.
But guess what? There was still something missing.
And over again, I just went and said “Okay, let’s get some more money.” So I developed a business called Arabic Translation, an interpreting service, and it started to make some good money.
By the end of the day, I created another company, Petra Translations International, an international translation company, which was also making good money.
But there was always something missing. I was investing more and more into this and that. I even got an amazing house made of marble in Jordan. And yet, I felt miserable…so miserable that I had to leave my wife.
As a result, she took our children away and that broke something in me. My employees and staff saw me depressed and unhappy. One by one they left and that’s when my business went downhill. I also lost some friends in the process.
This was the moment when everything around me collapsed. I went on to build another life and to try again but it still collapsed.
What I’ve been doing all along is that I’ve been investing in my life, in my dream but on the outside. Until a few years ago, I saved some money and I was at an event called Unleashed the Power Within in Singapore.
It was at the moment that I realized that I’ve been doing it all wrong…although it was a good learning experience. And it took me a long while to learn but eventually I learned that I was investing too much in my kingdom so I will become a king.
Investing in ME
On that same day, I made one of the scariest decisions in my life. Instead of investing in my business and making more money, I took all my money and invested it on myself.
I became a Platinum Partner in Tony Robbin’s Foundation, I traveled the world, I worked with Wim Hoff, Keith Cunningham, and countless others. I used the time to just learn.
I needed to invest in myself so I can create the kingdom within and keep it and not lose it again. When I was able to do that, I was able to rebuild my relationship with people that I really care about. I was able to rebuild a life that I really want. I was able to have the friendships that I’ve always dreamed of having.
I am living a rewarding, fulfilled life and I’m moving forward towards my dreams. And the reason I share all of this with you is because what I’ve done is not something unusual. It’s not just me that has done this. This is something that we all do.
We all think that in order for us to be happy, we need to invest in a car or a house, or get that relationship. But it doesn’t. Happiness comes from within.
So let me leave you with this thought: Start investing in you.
